It’s been a very busy past week technically for WISH Pool as we went through two version upgrades in a matter of days. The first was the major upgrade to v1.26.1 which came out early last week. It was a recommended upgrade to improve the memory utilisation of the nodes which will pave the way for more capacity in the future when needed. The upgrade took longer than usual as it required a resend of the database which took about an hour.
As with normal safe change management practices, the changes were applied to our test servers first. When everything was tested to be working correctly, I applied the upgrade to our production servers. The process went through smoothly aside from those nail biting period waiting for the database to finish syncing.
After the upgrade, I took a well deserved break with family and was ready to create more educational content when I got a notification that a new version has just been released which need to be applied by Tuesday. And so, I spent the rest of a lovely Sunday evening upgrading Testnet to v1.26.2, followed by mainnet in the early hours of Monday.
Thus is the life of a Cardano Stake Pool Operator. It’s not all fun and games and glamour. Lots of sacrifice in terms of time and for small stake pool operators like me, little to no rewards except the joy of bringing Cardano to life by maintaining the network up.
I just hope this will all be worth it in the end 🙂
