Yesterday, I made my first monetary donation to our adopted educational charity (Akaraka). This is to show our commitment to educational scholarships and as thanksgiving to everyone who has delegated to WISH Pool like the F2LB Alliance. Current delegations to WISH Pool now stands at 677K ADA and counting.
As I mentioned in my first blog, I had previously helped Akaraka back in 2014 by documenting the graduation of some of their first scholars in the Philippines. Working with a film crew, we interviewed the students at their homes, at school, and were even given access to film their graduation which was usually reserved for relatives only. These young adults would have been lost in the continuous cycle of poverty were it not for Akaraka. Instead of doing menial jobs to help the family at an early age, they were able to graduate at one of the most prestigious schools in the Philippines. Today, they are leading comfortable lives and are well on their way to taking their families out of poverty.
Seeing these children and hearing their stories made me understand that we should really look for long term solutions to solve poverty. Yes, it is important to give financial aid to those who cannot afford their daily needs but this is not sustainable without huge financial investments. A better way is to give these disadvantaged students the tools to eventually stand on their own by giving them access to quality education.
I have since gone back to my day job in IT and have also helped a couple of other charities like SPCA, Mercy Relief. Dyslexia Association and much more. Nevertheless, I have never forgotten about Akaraka and the children that they are helping. To date, they have helped more than 418 students achieve their dreams.
Since the COVID Pandemic came, the lives of a new generation of disadvantaged children became even more difficult. These students do not have the means to buy their own computers so they travel to use the school’s computers everyday. With COVID, some of these students are unable to attend their remote classes and their financial situations became even worse if their parents get retrenched.
WISH Pool aims to help these disadvantaged children by donating at least 10% of our profit to educational charities.
If you own Cardano and are looking for a stake pool to delegate to, please consider the value that the pool can give to the greater community and not just the monetary rewards you can get. This value can be technical (e.g. improving the Cardano infrastructure) or social (e.g. supporting educational charities).
If you like this article, please support us by delegating to WISH Pool. You will be earning interest rewards while indirectly helping the lives of disadvantaged children. At WISH Pool, we pledge to give at least 10% of our own profit to educational charities so that successful students can help get their families out of poverty.
